Gary Goodweather Submits Nearly 5,000 Signatures to Qualify for D.C. Mayoral Ballot
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This afternoon, Gary Goodweather, candidate for Mayor of the District of Columbia, submitted nearly 5,000 petition signatures to the D.C. Board of Elections, more than double the 2,000 signatures required to qualify for the ballot in the June Democratic primary.
This milestone marks a major turning point in the campaign and reflects a growing grassroots movement across all eight wards of the District.
“This campaign has been built by the people of Washington, D.C.,” said Goodweather. “For more than a year, we have been in neighborhoods across this city, listening to residents, understanding their concerns, and developing real solutions. Today’s submission reflects that work and the momentum we are building together.”
Since launching in February 2025, the campaign has engaged residents in every corner of the city - from Ward 1 to Ward 8 through direct outreach, conversations, and sustained organizing efforts. Supporters, volunteers, and members of our team collected signatures citywide, demonstrating broad support for a new direction in our city leadership.
Goodweather’s campaign has also made history as the first mayoral campaign in D.C. to qualify for public matching funds led by a candidate who has never previously held or run for public office, signaling both strong grassroots support and a new push for civic participation in the District.
“This moment is about more than qualifying for the ballot,” Goodweather added. “It’s about building a campaign that reflects the voices of residents across our city and creating a vision for a more affordable, safer, and more accountable Washington D.C.”
With petition signatures now submitted, the campaign enters the next phase of the race, focusing on expanding voter engagement, sharing its vision for the future of the District, and building a coalition that represents every neighborhood and community.
Goodweather for Mayor is a grassroots, Fair Elections campaign committed to building a safer, stronger, and more self-determined Washington, D.C.
