Goodweather Responds to Trump Remarks on D.C. Mayoral Election and Home Rule
Washington, D.C. — Gary Goodweather, candidate for Mayor of the District of Columbia, today responded to recent comments by President Donald Trump regarding governance in Washington, D.C. and the future of the city’s Home Rule authority.
“The people of DC , and only the people of DC, should decide how our city is run. We deserve Home Rule, representation in Congress, and the right to govern ourselves. We pay taxes like every other American and no president should act as though they have the authority to override the will of DC voters.” said Gary Goodweather, Democratic candidate for Mayor of the District of Columbia.
Goodweather’s statement comes in response to President Trump’s recent remarks concerning Washington, D.C. and his views on the city’s leadership and governance structure post Democratic primary election.
Throughout his campaign, Goodweather has consistently emphasized the importance of protecting Home Rule, defending local democracy, and ensuring that decisions affecting District residents remain in the hands of the people who live in the city.
The Democratic primary election for Mayor of the District of Columbia will be held on June 16.
Gary Goodweather for Mayor is a grassroots, Fair Elections campaign committed to building a safer, stronger, and more self determined Washington, D.C.
