Goodweather to Celebrate Historic Campaign Milestone
First-time candidate surpasses qualification threshold for Mayor
Washington, D.C. — Gary Goodweather, U.S. Army veteran, business leader, and candidate for Mayor of Washington, D.C., will host a celebration tonight after shattering expectations in the District’s Fair Elections Program. His grassroots campaign has officially surpassed the donor threshold required for Fair Elections qualification — an unprecedented achievement for a first-time mayoral candidate with no prior political office.
The Goodweather campaign has built a diverse and community-rooted donor coalition, driven by small-dollar contributions from every ward. This milestone positions the campaign to unlock public matching funds pending final certification from the Office of Campaign Finance.
“We’re proving what is possible when a campaign is built from the ground up and powered by everyday Washingtonians,” said Goodweather. “This city deserves bold ideas, real transparency, and a Mayor who shows up for residents in every neighborhood. Tonight is about the people who made this moment possible.”
The campaign will gather supporters, community members, and local leaders this evening in Dupont Circle. Members of the media are invited to attend and speak with Goodweather about the milestone, his policy priorities, and what comes next.
