GARY GOODWEATHER RESPONDS TO JANEESE LEWIS GEORGE'S METRO DC DSA ENDORSEMENT
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gary Goodweather, candidate for Mayor of the District of Columbia, today reaffirmed his commitment to governing for every DC resident and every community, without exception, following the publication of Councilmember Janeese Lewis George's Metro DC DSA endorsement questionnaire responses.
"I took an oath to the United States Constitution. As an officer in the U.S. Army, I served for all Americans regardless of race, religion, background, or belief. That principle doesn't stop at the Potomac."
"I talk to DC residents every day, in every ward. They tell me about the problems they face; the kinds of problems we can and should solve together. I seek out more voices, not fewer. That's what leadership requires."
In her written responses to the Metro DC DSA endorsement questionnaire, Councilmember Lewis George committed to refusing engagement with a broad category of Jewish and pro-Israel organizations a category the DSA defines expansively enough to include even J Street, one of the most progressive pro-Israel groups in the country. She also used the questionnaire to distance herself from a December speech she gave at a Jewish Community Relations Council breakfast, where she had pledged to stand by Jewish Washingtonians.
"A mayor who pre-decides which residents deserve to be heard has already failed the most basic test of leadership. Governing is not a zero-sum game where some DC residents win at the expense of others."
In his first 90 days, Goodweather will convene a DC Jewish Community Advisory Council. He will maintain an open door policy for every community, faith group, and constituency across all eight wards. No neighborhood will lack direct access to the mayor's office. No community will be told they are unwelcome at the table.
"What DC needs most right now is a politics of inclusion that brings people together in civil discourse, hearing more perspectives, solving problems together. That is what residents should expect from their leadership. That is what I will do as mayor."
"Every Washingtonian, no matter what ward they live in, what faith they practice, or what they believe, deserves a mayor who will earn their vote and govern for them. That is the mayor I will be."

"As mayor, I will govern for all DC residents from Day 1."
Goodweather for Mayor is a grassroots, Fair Elections campaign committed to building a safer, stronger, and more self determined Washington, D.C.
