Safety

Washington, DC deserves to be a city where every resident feels secure in their neighborhood, on public transit, and in their daily lives. For too long, crime has undermined our sense of community and trust in government. We need leadership that strengthens public safety while also building lasting relationships between law enforcement and the people they serve.

To be successful, our approach must be comprehensive: support our officers, strengthen the judicial system, and invest in community trust.

Investing in Law Enforcement

  • Competitive pay and benefits to attract and retain the best officers.

  • Enhanced training, including crisis de-escalation and specialized mental health response, equipping them with the skills to de-escalate situations like those involving individuals experiencing mental health crises.

  • Modern equipment and technology to improve effectiveness and accountability.

Officers Living in the Communities They Serve

A police force that resides within the communities it serves fosters trust and cooperation.

  • Housing incentives and tax abatements so officers can afford to live in DC.

  • Discount partnerships with local businesses to reduce cost of living.

  • A stronger connection between residents and officers when they share the same neighborhoods.

Building Community Trust

Effective policing extends beyond law enforcement; it requires engagement in local communities.

  • Officers should be incentivized to participate in community-based programs such as the Boys & Girls Clubs, serving as referees, coaches, and mentors.

  • Expanding partnerships with community organizations to foster collaboration.

  • Police officers as role models will bridge gaps between law enforcement and communities, fostering stronger relationships and reducing tensions.

Strengthening the Judicial System

A well-functioning judicial system is crucial for public safety.

  • Collaborating with the federal government to appoint more judges and reduce case backlogs.

  • Ensuring timely justice so that victims and communities are not left waiting.

  • Building a judicial system that keeps pace with the needs of a growing city.

A safer Washington, DC requires more than police presence—it demands community trust, accountability, and effective governance.

By investing in well-trained officers, ensuring they live in the communities they serve, engaging youth, and improving the judicial system, we can create a city that is not only safe, but thriving.
