About Gary

Washington, DC works best when leadership shows up, listens, and delivers consistently. I'm Gary Goodweather. I live and work here, and I'm running for mayor because this city deserves leadership focused on real outcomes - not rhetoric. DC doesn't need more debate. It needs a government that works better in people's daily lives.

For more than 30 years, I've led teams, managed complex operations, and been accountable for results. I know what it takes to run large organizations responsibly, make tough decisions, and follow through. That experience shapes how I approach public service: with discipline, transparency, and respect for the people the system is meant to serve.

Before my civilian career, I served in the United States Army, commissioned in the armor branch and rose to the rank of Captain before receiving an honorable discharge in 2004. Military service taught me how to lead under pressure, work as part of a team, and take responsibility - lessons that have guided me ever since.

I believe deeply in preparation and lifelong learning. I earned a B.A. in Political Science from Bucknell University and an MBA in Finance from Johns Hopkins University, strengthening my ability to manage budgets, assess tradeoffs, and build teams that deliver results.

DC has been my home for more than 20 years. It's where I build my career, met my wife, and raised my two kids. I've experienced this city not as an abstract idea, but as a place where families are trying to stay, businesses are trying to grow, and neighborhoods are trying to thrive

When we invest in our communities, support local businesses, and respect residents' time, the whole city is stronger.

This campaign is about setting clear standards for how government should work - and holding ourselves accountable to them.

DC Lives Here.
